The name ‘Thunderhead’ invokes certain images. Of torrential downpours and an experience so drenching that it will not leave any part of your body untouched. Well, with the Thunderhead TH2.5 you get just that, and more thanks to several steps taken by the company that ensure you have a high performance, long lasting and effective shower experience every time you turn the tap on. What more could you ask from your shower?
The appearance of the TH2.5 is a little different to most other contemporary shower heads. Whereas typically you expect to see shower heads finished in chrome or a shiny, metallic variant such as brushed bronze or brass, the Thunderhead is somewhat more modern and contemporary in design and goes for a clean white look, due in part to the material it being made of being plastic. Whilst this is obviously not a colour scheme set to suit all bathrooms, it does fit with a lot of modern styles and there are plenty other strong points to consider.
The head itself is not the largest rain type shower head available but is still a considerable 6 inches across and it incorporates 90 jets into its design. This lends to its sleek and effective appearance. Combine this with four individual ratchets and locking mechanisms and you can angle and shape this shower head exactly how you wish, which only adds to its usability.
The installation of the Thunderhead TH2.5 is also incredibly straightforward. As would be expected, it comes with a self-help user guide and as soon as your old unit is disconnected from your main plumbing point, it can be installed within ten minutes. It comes with big, chunky screws that tighten around your already installed plumbing ware and they are loose enough to be used by just about anyone. There is also a handy bracket where you install the unit to the wall, meaning that you do not have to worry about holding the shower unit up every time you wish to wash.
Thanks to the multiple brackets and excellent positioning factors of the TH2.5, you can install the unit directly above your head which gives you a true vertical rainfall experience. When combined with the impressive PSI of the unit, coming in around 80psi, you have a very effective rainfall shower experience that is truly drenching and satisfying.
Despite this factor, the water consumption of the unit is right in line with what you would expect from a good product within this field. Typical consumption for non-water saving units is 2.5 gallons a minute and this is a figure that the Thunderhead can achieve with no questions asked, despite the incredibly high psi that is generated. This is in part due to an incredibly effective chamber mechanism that stores the water before forcing it out, and it can also turn low pressure piping into a satisfying experience with minimal extra work from you.
SELF CLEANING ABILITIES
A point should be made about the cleaning abilities of this unit. Cleaning a pre-installed shower head can be a time consuming and frustrating experience. Yet even in the areas of the hardest water and scale build up, the TH2.5 comes out with top marks. The head is high pressure and each and every water jet can easily be cleaned via a quick squeeze and blast of water. This leads to a 2 year guarantee on the product thanks to these steps taken.
- Despite being a white plastic unit, the integral design is attractive
- Excellent psi created, even amongst those plumbing systems of lesser pressure
- Good 2 year guarantee on performance
- Excellent cleaning properties also, adding to the lifetime considerably
- A plastic finish is undesirable to some
- Expensive, at nearly $70 per unit
The Thunderhead TH2.5 delivers on its promise of a high pressure, effective rain type showering experience each and every time you turn it on. It generates excellent pressure and its cleaning abilities aid it greatly. It is however a somewhat expensive unit and the finish will not be for everyone. I hope that this Thunderhead TH2.5 review has been helpful!
